Air Conditioning Energy Assessor

What is an Air Conditioning Energy Assessor?

Air Conditioning Energy Assessors (ACEAs) carry out inspections of air conditioning systems.

The inspection will include an assessment of efficiency, a review of the system sizing, advice on improvements or replacements and potential alternative solutions.

Why are they needed?

In accordance with Article 9 of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, ACEAs are required to inspect air conditioning systems installed in existing buildings and produce an associated Inspection Report. This requirement affects all existing buildings in England & Wales.

Air conditioning systems, whether in dwellings or non-dwellings, where the total system cooling capacity is greater than 12kW will be inspected at intervals not exceeding 5 years.

How do I become an Air Conditioning Energy Assessor?

To practice as an ACEA, you will need to:

  • Undertake training and assessment to achieve the ABBE Level 3 Diploma in Air Conditioning Energy Assessment
  • Be accepted as a member of a Government-approved accreditation scheme

NES currently offers online training modules, and will shortly launch a programme of assessment for you to achieve the qualification.

How is the training structured?

NES has devised an alternative approach to the delivery of the ACEA training and qualification.

We provide a series of 11 online training modules:

  • Background to the requirements for air conditioning inspections
  • Refrigerants
  • Thermodynamics and the vapour compression refrigeration cycle
  • An Introduction to Refrgeration Basics III (interactive learning CD)
  • Air conditioning system types
  • Key components of vapour compression refrigeration systems
  • Faults and fault finding
  • VRV/VRF system technology
  • Absorption cooling systems
  • Air conditioning inspection practice
  • Reporting on air conditioning inspections

Having undertaken the training you can then register with us to take the Level 3 ACEA qualification separately and complete your portfolio for assessment separately.  We will be announcing details on this shortly. You will not be obliged to undertake assessment if you buy the training.

Please note that purchase of this training course does not therefore register you with ABBE or cover any of the assessment requirements costs.

If you do not intend to qualify as an ACEA, you can simply buy this course as a CPD package to extend your current knowledge and understanding.
