Yorkshire businesses set to benefit from skills funding

Financial support for surveyor training available in Leeds City Region.

Businesses operating in the Leeds City Region may be eligible for skills funding under a service offered by the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP). With a funding allocation of over £13m available until March 2017, the service offers small and medium sized businesses the chance to train and up-skill their staff with up to 50% discount on course fees.

The SAVA School of Surveying, sister company of National Energy Services, is one of the most recent training providers to be approved and registered by the LEP Skills Service. This may be of particular interest to surveying firms and estate agencies looking to up-skill their staff and offer surveying and valuation services in-house.

SAVA’s Diploma in Residential Surveying and Valuation is a level 6 qualification which offers direct entry into the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) at Associate member level. With a balance of face-to-face and online learning, learners have the opportunity to complete the qualification whilst maintaining full time employment.

SAVA’s Head of Surveying Services, Hilary Grayson, says, “This is a great opportunity for businesses in and around Leeds. The LEP Skills Service offers an affordable way for businesses to grow and train up a highly skilled workforce. The course can give property professionals the skills needed to provide residential surveying and valuation services and we look forward to welcoming them into the school.”

Once qualified, graduates will be able to offer valuation reports, RICS products such as the HomeBuyer Report, and the SAVA Home Condition Survey, giving businesses in the property industry the option to adopt a new revenue stream at a subsidised rate.

The LEP Skills Service helps businesses to identify their skills needs based on their business growth objectives and then find the right training solution. Small and medium sized businesses based in the Leeds City Region that have a budget to put towards training could be eligible for funding between £500 and £50,000. The LEP covers Leeds and its surrounding districts such as Harrogate, Selby and Kirklees to name a few.
