NES Announces New Charity Plan

Here at NES we like to make everyone feel included and, when we can, we enjoy coming together as a team for events like our annual company bike ride.

This got us thinking – what if we could hold these events and give back to the community at the same time? So, with this thought in mind, we are proud to announce the launch of the NES Community Fund – a new charity project lead by NES staff.

The project is simple – every year, NES chooses one national and one local charity to support. A small team is then elected to organise charity events, propose fundraising ideas and generally to bring the NES team together to raise money and increase awareness for our chosen charities.

This year, the team has selected:

Willen Hospice provides specialist palliative care to those with illnesses that no longer respond to treatment. The care provided by the hospice is free to those who need it, but to continue offering this care, the hospice relies on charitable donations from individuals and companies like us.
Mind is a mental health charity committed to ensuring those with mental health problems receive the support and respect they deserve. The charity provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem, and aims to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

NES staff were asked to complete a short survey about this project including how they would like to get involved – the winning idea was “themed days” (who can resist fancy dress?). We will hold a number of themed days throughout the year where staff members are asked to give £1 to dress up or £2 to opt out! NES will then match all funds raised and the money will be split equally between the two charities at the end of the fundraising period.

The NES Community Fund is not just committed to theme days – we’re also working on other activities to get us actively involved in the local community, including volunteering through Community Action, so watch this space!

NES Charity Pirate Day

Ahoy, mateys! NES will be supporting the charities Willen Hospice and Mind over the coming year and, for our first themed charity event, we will be holding a Pirate Day! On Friday 27th May NES staff (and visitors) will be invited to get their swords, eye patches and pieces of eight at the ready for a day of swashbuckling fun (in between work activities, of course). Each participating staff member will donate £1 with NES matching all monies raised.

We are also working on some other activities around this theme to take place on the day, so stay tuned for updates and photos of the day!
