Learn even more about SAP 2009 and Part L 2010

We recently launched our online CPD package for On Construction Energy Assessors to ensure that they are ready for the forthcoming changes to SAP and Part L.

In response to requests from a number of our members, we are following this up with a series of face-to-face practical workshops on the most significant and complex aspects of SAP 2009 and Part L 2010.

Listen to a short interview with NES Technical Manager Dyfrig Hughes about the changes to SAP and Part L

SAP 2009 Masterclass

On this one-day course, you will:

  • Have hands on practice with calculating the y value for more complex dwellings, working from plans
  • Do practical exercises that give you a better understanding of what Accredited Construction Details (ACDs) and Enhanced Construction Details (ECDs) are and how thermal bridges can be avoided
  • Assess the thermal mass parameter of a number of constructions using both the rules of thumb and by calculating the TMP and explore the impact of thermal mass on the DER, the FEE and summer overheating
  • Enter a mechanical cooling system and a reversible heat pump into NHER Plan Assessor 5.0 and explore the impact on the DER with location
  • Get practical experience of the more complex multiple heating system options in Plan Assessor 5.0 and of applying the appropriate conventions for data entry

Computers will be provided, but delegates are welcome to bring their own laptops if pre-loaded with Plan Assessor 5.0 so that work done on the workshop can be taken away.

Calculating Thermal Bridging Psi Values

On this one-day course, you will:

  • Understand how psi values are derived
  • Calculate psi values for three different junctions using the 2D THERM program
  • Appreciate what is involved in doing more complex junctions
  • Get an overview of the main available software for doing 2D and 3D psi value calculations
  • Understand what’s meant in Part L by being someone with "suitable expertise and experience for calculating psi values"

Both courses are taking place at the National Energy Centre, Milton Keynes over the next two months - click on the links above for more information and available dates. Due to the format, the number of available places on these workshops will be limited, so we strongly advise booking ahead if you are interested.
