About Us

National Energy Services (NES) is the UK’s home for independent energy assessors, home inspectors,
surveyors and low carbon professionals. We’ve partnered with the British Standards Institute (BSI) to
create a unique partnership to provide an independent certification service to Green Deal Assessor
Organisations (GDAOs) for both the domestic and non domestic sectors. The scheme has been
accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ensure that Green Deal Advisors
provide advice and reports that are in accordance with DECC’s requirements. You can read more about

How can I find a certified GDAO?

A list of all GDAO’s registered with the NES/BSI Scheme can be found here. Alternatively, a full list can be found on the Oversight and Registration Body register.

How do I get my organisation certified?

The NES/BSI certification scheme will assess organisations wanting certification as a Green Deal Assessor
Organisation (GDAO) against the Specification for Organisations Providing the Green Deal Advice
and the Green Deal Code of Practice. A Certification Audit will
be carried out (usually at the applicant’s head office) to ensure that robust and credible management systems and procedures are in place to operate as a GDAO. The applicant will also need to show they have
eligible Green Deal Advisors and sufficient insurance cover.

How do I apply to the NES/BSI certification scheme to become a certified GDAO?

How much will it cost for certification?

This will be charged at £500 per day (plus VAT and expenses).

Can you carry out a Gap Analysis?

Yes, a Gap Analysis is an optional stage where we will review an
applicant’s existing systems and processes in order to identify strengths and weaknesses within the system.
This is usually carried out as a desktop check, however we can visit the applicant’s head office at
request. This is priced at £300 + VAT for the desktop check. Please contact us for more details. Please note NES does not offer any consultancy services. 

What is a Green Deal Advisor?

A Green Deal Advisor is employed by a certified organisation and is responsible for carrying out a Green
Deal Occupancy Assessment (GDOA) and producing a Green Deal Advice Report (GDAR). A GDA can
operate in either the domestic or non-domestic sector and needs to have the correct qualification and
certification. Having a GDAR is a pre-requisite for any person who wishes to obtain Green Deal finance in
order to pay for the installation of energy efficiency measures at their property. The GDA will have a mixture
of technical knowledge, practical competence and ‘soft’ skills to provide households and businesses
with the advice they need to take informed decisions.
