Why Would You Want To Work In Milton Keynes?
Milton Keynes is the showcase new city of southern England. Work started on building the city 30 years ago and it is now over 80% complete. The small towns of Wolverton, Bletchley and Stony Stratford were incorporated into the city, along with a number of villages. Most of the people who live in Milton Keynes have therefore moved in from other parts of Britain. People who live in Milton Keynes appreciate the following aspects of this unique city:
- No traffic congestion, even at peak times - due to our unique 'grid' road system .
- Low density planning with a large amount of green space.
- A modern shopping centre and market with ample parking.
- Excellent sport and leisure facilities. We have what is possibly the best cycle network in the world (the 'Redways'), and an indoor ski slope with real snow. MK Dons Football Club relocated to the city in 2003 and currently play in a purpose-built modern stadium. The National Bowl hosts large music events and concerts. Willen Lake has a good variation of water sports including water skiing. The National Badminton Centre is based here.Various other leisure activities - too many to mention.
- Newly built theatre (the most successful theatre in the country!) and 'theatre district' with an art gallery, restaurants and bars.
- Affordable (energy efficient!) housing - compared to other parts of South East.
- Low level of car theft and other crime.
- Good level of public services e.g. Schools, Public Libraries and Recycling Centres.
- Country pubs and old coaching inns.
- Easy access to London (Euston less than 40 minutes by regular fast trains) and Birmingham
- Easy access to Luton airport (45 minutes on M1)
O.K. it sounds like paradise so far - so what's the downside?
- Very few older properties available within city boundaries
- Poor bus services - but improving
- The trees are mostly new and quite small
- It's a long way from the sea side
- No opportunities for rock climbing or hill walking (an hour or so from the Peak District though and the Chiltern Hills are 20 minutes to the south.)
